Manuel was born April 19, 1959, in Davenport, IA; son of Peter and Margaret (Marmalejo) Ortega. As a child Manuel was outgoing, loving, and kind and continued that legacy throughout life. He Graduated from Rio Linda High School and went on to later study at Sierra College. He worked for many years for Winston tire and brakes, as well as Goodyear tires making many friends along the way, especially those at 7 Day Tire. Along with working and advocating for Primerica.

Throughout Manuel’s life he enjoyed many passions and hobbies. Some of which included going camping with friends and family, fishing any chance he got, as well as golfing, playing cards, bowling, and shooting pool. If you knew Manuel you knew his prankster ways. Always trying to pull one over on people by making prank calls to close friends and family. Whether he was pretending to be a Chinese restaurant or telling you you’ve won the lottery, there wasn’t much he wouldn’t do to get a laugh out of you. He was always quite the actor when it came to being silly with the family. His brother remembers Manuel making their Grandma Pauline laugh at him by pretending to be drunk and playing pranks on their Aunt Toni and Mother on the phone. His family will always remember their trips to Roma’s Pizza, hosting Poker Games, and taking trips to flea markets as well as his favorite place…Thunder Valley Casino. It’s no secret that Manuel was a troublemaker, jokester, and ladies man. His silly and loveable ways will be in our memories forever.

Those left to cherish him are his children; Kathryn Rose Ortega, Zenobia Flagg, Anthony Casarez, Sylvia Meadows-Ortega, Elizabeth Ortega, Estrella Ortega, Sophia Ortega, and Julio Atanacio. Brother Mario (Lori) Ortega, along with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Peter and Margaret; Grandmother Pauline; son Manuel “Manny” Ortega Jr; Brothers: John Flores, Florentino Flores, Demetirus Flores, Valentine Flores, Felix Flores, Santos Flores, and Peter Ortega.
