Police hunting suspect after officer shot in Algona tonight

ALGONA - Algona is in a lockdown tonight after a local man allegedly shot an officer and is still at large as authorities attempt to hunt him down.

ALGONA – Algona is in a lockdown tonight after a local man allegedly shot an officer and is still at large as authorities attempt to hunt him down.

A BLUE ALERT has issued by the Iowa Department of Public Safety on September 13, 2023. At approximately 8:00 PM Wednesday evening, a police officer was shot in the 1100 block of Minnesota Street in Algona, Iowa. The shooter has not been apprehended. The shooter has been identified as 43-year-old Kyle Lou Ricke (pictured above) of Algona.

Ricke is a white male, 5’11”, 190 pounds, with blue eyes and a shaved head. He may be driving a black 2021 Chevy Silverado with Iowa license plate JMV612.

Ricke should be considered armed and dangerous. He should not be approached. Residents in the Algona area have been asked to lockdown in place.

Anyone with information on Ricke’s whereabouts Ricke is asked to call 911 or the Iowa State Patrol at (712) 732-1341.

UPDATE:

At 11:00 a.m. this morning, a multi-jurisdictional press conference will be held in Algona, Iowa, regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in Algona. A police officer was shot in the 1100 block of S. Minnesota Street in Algona. The shooter has been identified as Kyle Lou Ricke, 43, of Algona, who was later apprehended in Minnesota.

This morning’s press conference will include members of the Algona Police Department, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, the Kossuth County Attorney’s Office, the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa Department of Public Safety, and will held at the Kossuth County Election Center, 108 S. Hall Street in Algona.
