Sonya I. Kockler, 44, of Nora Springs passed away peacefully Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN after a courageous battle with cancer.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA.

Sonya Ileen was born March 2, 1979 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Jerome Allen and Lana Ileen (Campbell) Brockney. Growing up in the area, Sonya graduated from Mason City High School in 1997 and continued her education at NIACC. Sonya was blessed with two sons, Ethan and Hunter. On September 10, 2016 she married Jeffrey Erickson Kockler in Clear Lake and gained beloved step-children. Sonya worked at the Nora Springs Care Center until her health took precedence earlier this year.

Sonya, a woman of incredible strength and love faced an eight-month battle with cancer with grace and determination. She found solace in her garden, where she and her family lovingly tended to vibrant plants and flowers. Their adventures included camping all across Iowa. Sonya adored water, whether it was the lakes and rivers of Iowa, waterparks, backyard pools, or Myrtle Beach. She loved traveling, making cherished memories with family and friends during trips, most memorably to Las Vegas and countless concerts. The Kockler home was a gathering place for sleepovers, weekend get-togethers, and spirited games, where the laughter of children and friends filled the air. Sonya’s heart embraced their cats and dogs, but her greatest joy was the time spent with her family, watching movies, cooking, and experimenting with new recipes. Above all, Sonya was an extraordinary mother, a source of unwavering love and support for her children, husband and family.

Sonya’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional Mayo Clinic Rochester Palliative Care Team for their unwavering dedication and compassionate care for Sonya during this delicate period. The respect and attention she received were truly exceptional. Thank you.
