Joanne "Jo" Kothenbeutel, 78, of Garner, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. She was a member of Garner Evangelical Free Church and Garner Lions Club.

Joanne “Jo” Kothenbeutel, 78, of Garner, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Garner Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Clevey Ragsdale officiating. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery near Latimer.

Visitation will be held one hour before church services on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed in memory of Jo to Iowa Lions Kidsight Foundation or Elderbridge Agency in Mason City.

Joanne Beverly Kothenbeutel, the daughter of Harry and Mabel (Cottingham) Lenz, was born on March 29, 1945, in Lyle, Minnesota. She grew up near Lyle and graduated from Lyle High School in 1963. On September 13, 1964, she married Donald Kothenbeutel at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin, Minnesota. They lived in Hampton where Don worked in the post office and Jo at a restaurant owned and operated by Don’s father. In 1993, they moved to Garner where they were active in their church and Garner Lions Club. Jo enjoyed bowling, golfing, and trips with Don internationally and around the country for the Lions Club.

She was a member of Garner Evangelical Free Church and Garner Lions Club.

Jo is survived by her sister, Mary (Leo) Pool of Worthington, MN; sister-in-law, Diane Lenz of Reading, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don, Aug. 15, 2021; brother, Carroll Lenz; and nephews, Kent and Blaine Lenz.
