KOSSUTH COUNTY – A man reportedly living in Mason City was nabbed in Kossuth county on abuse charges after police were called for help.

The Kossuth county sheriff arrested 39-year-old Jimmy Harkey (pictured, above, from a previous arrest), reportedly of Mason City, on a charge of domestic abuse assault after a call for help in Titonka. A no-contact order was placed on Harkey by a judge. He bonded out of jail on August 28, and awaits a court arraignment on September 18.

Harkey was in trouble in Charles City back in 2020. On the morning of June 30, 2020, at 8:38 AM, officers with the Charles City police department were investigating an incident in the 700 block of Freeman Street.  As a result, they arrested Harkey, then of Charles City, for domestic abuse assault involving strangulation and bodily injury, a class D felony. However, the charges were later dropped before he faced a jury trial.

Waterloo police arrested Harkey back in 2008 on felony robbery and willful injury charges. He was found guilty by a jury on both counts and was sent to prison and ordered to pay $97,739.61 in court costs and restitution. He still owes over $48,000 in that case.
