Robert Harold Schinnow, 86, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society, Forest City, IA.
Family will have a Private Graveside Service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Robert was born on September 6, 1936, the son of Robert Emett and Mabel (Johnson) Schinnow. At a young age Robert lost his father during WWII, shortly after his mother passed too leaving him and his siblings to be in foster care. He was a graduate of Mason City High School. In 1957 he married Glenice Morris at Trinity Lutheran in Mason City, from this loving union four children were born.
Most of his life was spent in Mason City, though he also had experienced living in Ida Grove and Woodbine. He often found joy in repairing and collecting clocks, woodworking, fishing, as well as coin and antique collecting. Alongside these hobbies, he showcased his culinary talents as a great cook. Robert owned and successfully operated a Bob’s Foodland Supermarket in Forest City. Later on, Robert spent a decade working as a meat cutter at HyVee East. Being a helping hand to those in need is something he took great pride in. Robert shared a special bond with his bichon shih tzu companion, McGee. He often enjoyed coffee with friends at HyVee East where he liked talking about his grandchildren.
Robert’s legacy is one of passion, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and generosity. His impact extended to his community and his loved ones, leaving behind a life that was marked by a multitude of interests and an unwavering willingness to lend a hand.
Those left to cherish memories of Robert are his children, Mark Schinnow of Rochester, MN, Jon (Linda) Schinnow of Billings, MT, Lisa Schinnow of Sarasota, FL, Wayne (Susan) Schinnow, Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Libby Schinnow of North Carolina, Lindsey Schinnow of Chicago, IL; Lauren Grigsby of New York, NY, Luke Grigsby of Michigan, Laura (Anothey) Wells of Phoenix, AZ; and Tiffany Schinnow; sisters, Shirley and Diana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Glenice; and his parents.
