Fort Dodge mother to spend decades behind bars for the death of her infant

FORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge mother will spend at least 35 years in prison for the death of her newborn daughter, whom she reportedly drowned in a bathtub.

FORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge mother will spend at least 35 years in prison for the death of her newborn daughter, whom she reportedly drowned in a bathtub.

NIT earlier reported that police were investigating the death of an infant in Fort Dodge.  As a result of this extensive investigation, 31‐year‐old Fort Dodge Resident Brandon D. Thoma and 24‐year‐old Fort Dodge resident Taylor K. Blaha were arrested.

Brandon D. Thoma
– Murder 1st Degree (A Felony) $1,000,000.00 cash bond
– Abuse of a Corpse (C Felony) $50,000.00 cash bond

Taylor K. Blaha
– Murder 1st Degree (A Felony) $1,000,000.00 cash bond

Reportedly, the couple drowned their newborn baby girl and disposed of its body in an unknown location.  Blaha pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 50 years prison, 35 years required to serve at minimum.  Thoma  pleaded guilty in July and will be sentenced next month for child endangerment resulting in death and abuse of a corpse.
