CHARLES CITY – A traffic collision in Charles City caused two women to endure pain, thousands of dollars in damages, and one party to receive a ticket.

Charles City police say the accident took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 2, 2023. At 4:51 PM that day, officers with the Charles City police department went to the area of 4th Avenue and B Street for a report of a two-vehicle auto accident. Police reported that a 2009 Honda Accord operated by 27-year-old Rebecca Joyce of Charles City was traveling westbound on 4th Avenue when the Honda rear-ended a grey 2016 Chevrolet Malibu operated by 44-year-old Melissa Holt of Charles City. Holt was waiting for turning traffic.

As a result of the collision, one vehicle sustained significant damage; total damage was estimated at $3,000. Both parties complained of minor pain.

Rebecca Joyce was cited for following too closely and faces over $200 in fines and court costs if guilty. In 2017, she was guilty of operating while intoxicated but paid only a $65.00 fine plus court costs and fees.
