Irene M. Stanbrough, 100, of Greene, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Chautauqua Guest Homes in Charles City, Iowa. Irene was born May 15, 1923, in Greene.

Irene M. Stanbrough, 100, of Greene, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Chautauqua Guest Homes in Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Greene. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Irene and her loved ones.

Irene was born May 15, 1923, in Greene, daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Pagles) Rover. She was baptized on June 24, 1923, at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar, rural Greene. Irene attended schools through the eighth grade and then Hamilton School of Commerce. Throughout the years, she was a bookkeeper for Mid States Screw Corp in Rockford, Illinois, Pooley Lumber Company in Greene and Coonradt Ford Motor in Waverly.

Irene was united in marriage to Cecil Stanbrough on October 28, 2000, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was the oldest member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, where she was also a member of WELCA and other various activities. Irene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene was a member of a bowling team for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, as well as refinishing furniture and crossword puzzles.

Irene is survived by her son Doug (Marne) Stewart of Cedar Falls; sister Lavone Walters of Chapman, Maine; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special neighbors John and Lindsay Brinkman and their children Derek and Laney of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil Stanbrough in 2017, brother Dale Rover, and sisters Delores Osborne and Alta Harrah.
