Douglas Martin Fitzgerald was born on October 25, 1974, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Larry and Kathryn (Mustard) Fitzgerald. Doug grew up in Emmet County, receiving his education in the Lincoln Central – Gruver, Graettinger, and Estherville schools.

Douglas Martin Fitzgerald was born on October 25, 1974, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Larry and Kathryn (Mustard) Fitzgerald. He joined his dad in heaven on July 16, 2023 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville at the age of 48 years old.

Except for six years in Illinois, Doug grew up in Emmet County, receiving his education in the Lincoln Central – Gruver, Graettinger, and Estherville schools. He was a graduate of the Matuska Taxidermy School in Spirit Lake. He worked for many years at AgCo in Jackson, Minnesota and for the last 10 years was a self-employed contractor. He was artistic and a perfectionist in his work.

Doug, affectionately known as Kaveman was a good dad, son, grandpa, and friend to many. He cared deeply for the people in his life. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved deer hunting, both bow and muzzleloader. He enjoyed fishing on the river, Tuttle Lake, and ice fishing. Spring was morel mushroom time and he loved to fry walleye and mushrooms for family and friends. He loved to canoe on the river and spend a sunny day with nature. He also liked playing poker, watching the Hawkeyes and Augustana college wrestling, flea markets and auctions -carting home many treasures. He was patriotic and proudly stood for the flag and gun rights.

Doug had a huge heart and cared deeply for his family and friends. He leaves behind a hole in many hearts.

Doug is survived by his son Ryan Douglas (Sydnie) Fitzgerald, his daughters Ella and Mattie Fitzgerald, grandson Bennett Douglas Fitzgerald, Mother Katie Fitzgerald, brother Corey Fitzgerald, nephew Kylan Fitzgerald, nieces Kyrsten (Logan) Holloway, and Marissa Fitzgerald. Three great-nieces Lyv and Lyriq Holloway and Lovelyn Fitzgerald. His grandfather Don Mustard, Sr as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Fitzgerald, grandmother, Gladys Mustard, grandparents, Fred and Esther Fitzgerald, and one great-niece, Nova Holloway.

Never forgotten and gone way to soon.
