David John Otto Rhoades 27, of Mason City, Iowa, died July 6, 2023, in Mason City, Iowa. David attended various schools, with the last one being at Mason City Community School District.

David John Otto Rhoades 27, of Mason City, Iowa, died July 6, 2023, in Mason City, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street S.E. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Inurnment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

David John Otto Rhoades was born October 25, 1995, to Darcy (Albrecht) Murphy and Scott Rhoades. He was baptized on December 24, 1995, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, Iowa.

David attended various schools, with the last one being at Mason City Community School District.

David had struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse, but he loved music, singing and painting. He loved the outdoors and camping. He was loved by his family and friends.

David was never married and had no children.

David is survived by his parents, Darcy (Kevin) Murphy of Mason City, Iowa and Scott Rhoades of Plainfield, Iowa; two sisters, Kayla (Mariah) Evans of Mason City, Iowa and Sophie Rhoades; five brothers, Logan Murphy and Ethan Murphy of Mason City, Iowa and Ben Rhoades, James Rhoades and Lucas Rhoades; a niece, Winter Evans; a nephew, August Evans; his grandparents Kathy (Alan) VanArkle of Plainfield, Iowa, and Kim (Mary) Rhoades of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and LaVonne Albrecht; two aunts, Donna Albrecht and Darla Allison; one uncle, John Albrecht; and one cousin, Crystal Lorenzen.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to mental health awareness and research or any related charity or to the Humane Society of North Iowa as David had surrendered his dog when he could no longer care for him.
