OBIT: Alta Belle Hackbarth

Alta Belle Hackbarth, 83, of Hampton, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

Alta Belle Hackbarth, 83, of Hampton, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. She will be laid to rest at a private ceremony at Morgan Township Cemetery near Dows, Iowa. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hampton is caring for Alta and her family.

Alta was born November 2, 1939, in Novelty, Missouri, to parents Ellsworth H and M. Evelyn (Myers) Dalton. After graduating from high school, she completed beauty school and worked as a beauty operator.

On New Year’s Day, 1967, Alta was united in marriage to Galen Hackbarth in Hampton. They have three daughters, Susan, Shelley, and Stacy.

After working as a beauty operator, Alta went on to work as a potter. She was a talented artist and did many art shows during the summer selling her wares. She made many lifelong friendships doing this. She also worked alongside her husband on the farm throughout the years. In her free time, Alta enjoyed fishing at Sauk Lake in Minnesota and anywhere else where the fish were biting, skiing, camping, and the annual shopping trips she took with her daughters and granddaughters. She also loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (who knew her as “Honey” as that is what papa called her).

Alta is survived by her loving husband, Galen Hackbarth, daughters; Susan (John) McDermott, Shelley (Dave) Anderson, and Stacy (Scott) Heiserman, grandchildren; Josh McDermott, Jacob (Kayla) McDermott, Ryan Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Justin Hesierman, Jessica (Nick) Brooks, and Jaiden Heiserman, great-grandchildren; Ronan and Ellis McDermott, Gage Dorr, Zander, Brayden, Brielle Heiserman, and Brody Brooks (with a great granddaughter on the way), sisters-in-law; Myrna (Ken) Bertheau and Janet Hackbarth, brother-in-law Joe Waddle, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a beloved English bulldog, SugarBelle.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ellsworth H Dalton and M. Evelyn Eisentrager, brothers; Jim (Betsy) Dalton and Basil Dalton, and by her sister Alma Waddle.

Her family will miss her dearly. In lieu of flowers or memorials, catch a fish!
