Marlys Marie Johnson, 82, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Hampton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Marlys and her family.

Marlys was born September 20, 1940, in Ackley, IA, to parents Henry and Grace (Murra) Schoon. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School. Marlys worked for Winnebago Industries in Hampton for 23 years.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so very important to Marlys. She loved spending time with them whenever she could. Marlys was always busy; she just couldn’t sit still. She kept a tidy house, including rearranging her furniture almost every single week and enjoyed watching country westerns and shopping in store at JCPenny and Younkers or online in the last few years. Marlys also loved her $5 scratch-off crosswords. She was somewhat of a “fashionista.” You would always see her with her plaid shirts, new purses and a full face of makeup and hair.

Marlys was a kind, caring woman who will be missed dearly by those lucky enough to have known her.

Marlys is survived by her children Michael Johnson of Hampton, Rick (Jane) Johnson of Hampton, Debra (Mark) Klunder of Hampton, Jeffrey (Teresa) Johnson of Coulter and Pamela Kaehn of Hampton; grandchildren Ricky (Tara) Johnson, Reggie Johnson, Robbie Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Monica (Justin) Berning, Krysta (Chase) Weinandy, Travis Klunder, Mindi (Corey) Kenney, Kyle Kaehn, Kylie Kaehn, Dakota Johnson, Miranda Johnson, Tjaden Johnson and Brandon Johnson; great grandchildren Dylan, Zane, Liam, Joseph, Eliah, Gracee, Colin, Gemma, Koraline, Lincoln, Kamden, Sadie, Amiya, Keely, Chimaira, Berklei and Sullivyn; sisters Darlene (Elmer) Mennenga and Linda Hovenga; and sister-in-law Dianna Schoon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernie Johnson, son Dennis Johnson, brother-in-law Jerome Hovenga, brother Ronnie Schoon and grandson Chunk Johnson.
