Jerry was born August 14, 1952, in Mason City, IA, son of Harold William and Bernice Margarite (Victor) Durner. 1964 was a pivotal year in Jerry’s life. Not only did he start “going with” Mary Northway, but also the Beatles came to America. Jerry and Mary were married on August 25, 1973. Jerry received his BBA and MBA in Finance from the University of Houston and was Assistant Treasurer of an oil company. Mary and Jerry were blessed with two children, Stuart and Katherine. With the arrival of their children, their lives changed from work and golf to kids sports and education. Jerry was very active in youth sports in the NASA area, coaching baseball, softball, basketball, and football. He wanted to ensure that the youth were taught the importance of safety in all their activities. When his son decided to attend the US Military Academy at West Point, he became active in the West Point Parents Club and served 2 years as its president. As an acknowledgement of the time and effort that Jerry spent with the youth of the area, Mayor of the city of Houston, Bill White, proclaimed March 16, 2007 as Jerry and Mary Durner Day.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary; their two children, Stuart (Vanessa) Durner and Kate (Ties Brants) Durner; grandsons, Daniel and Jonathan; and sister, Diane Judd. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold and Bernice; sisters, Alice Barner and Judy Thompson; and brothers, Kenneth Carder and James Durner.
