WATERLOO – An infant was killed by a dog in Waterloo, and a woman was flown to a hospital with serious injuries caused by the animal.
On May 4, 2023, at approximately 7:22 AM, consolidated dispatch received a report of an animal attack at 1280 Scott Avenue in Waterloo. Waterloo patrol officers and Waterloo fire rescue arrived on scene and located two victims that had been bitten by a dog, inside the house. The first victim was a 49-year-old female, who was taken to Allen Hospital and later flown to the University of Iowa Hospital, where her injuries are considered serious. The second victim, a 9-month-old child, was declared deceased at the scene.
The victims from last Thursday’s animal attack have been identified as 9-month-old Navy Smith deceased and 49 yrs. old Susan Smith.
A police investigation is ongoing.
