Following Fort Dodge murder and shooting this week, one teen arrested and another wanted; reward offered

FORT DODGE – Following the discovery of a Fort Dodge man dead on a sidewalk and another shot and in a hospital, one teen is already behind bars and another is sought on murder charges.

On Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023, at approximately 7:10 P.M. the Webster County Telecommunications Center received multiple calls of shots fired in the area of the 100 block N 10th St. The Fort Dodge Police Department, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort Dodge Fire responded to the scene.

When officers arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive male on the sidewalk in front of 126 N 10th St in Fort Dodge. Officers began life‐saving efforts on the male before medics arrived, but the male was ultimately pronounced deceased. Investigators were called in and the scene was processed, and witnesses were located. The victim has been identified as 18‐year‐old Patrick Walker of Fort Dodge. While officers were still processing the scene, they were notified of an additional male that had arrived at Unity Point Trinity Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound. The identity of this victim is 20‐year‐old Silas Hall. Mr. Hall’s gunshot wound is not believed to be life threatening.

In the days following the homicide that occurred on Tuesday, May 2nd, investigators with the Fort Dodge Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, and the Webster County Attorney’s Office have continued to follow up on any and all leads related to the homicide. As a result of the continued investigation, Davonquae Jyshon Pettigrew (AKA D.J.) is now wanted on the following charges;

•Murder in the First Degree (A Felony)
•Attempt to Commit Murder (B Felony)

Mr. Pettigrew (PICTURED ABOVE) is described as being 17 years of age, 5’8” tall, and weighing 130 pounds. Mr. Pettigrew should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Mr. Pettigrew, they are encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately.

Additionally, as part of the investigation, Webster County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $500.00 for information that leads to an arrest of the suspect.

Also as a result of the investigation thus far, 16‐year‐old Fort Dodge resident Haydin Ranee Mapel was arrested on the afternoon of May 4 and charged with the following;

•Aiding and Abetting Murder in the First Degree (A Felony)
•Aiding and Abetting Attempt to Commit Murder (B Felony)

The above listed charges are forcible felonies which result in the juvenile being charged as an adult. As with all cases, the individual listed is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.   Mapel will have her initial appearance Friday morning. Bond is set as follows;

• $1,000,000.00 for Aiding and Abetting Murder in the First degree
• $300,000.00 for Aiding and Abetting Attempt to Commit Murder

Although an arrest has been made, the investigation is still on‐going.
