Michael “Mike” Ward, 70, of Charles City, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023 at his home.
A private family service will be held with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Visitation for Mike Ward will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.
Michael “Mike” Ray Ward, the son of Vilas and Gloria (Cummings) Ward, was born August 24, 1952 in Charles City. He received his education at country school and through the Charles City School System, graduating from Charles City High School in 1970. While in high school, Mike was active with the wrestling program and has many pendants in recognition of his accomplishments. He also worked at the Trowbridge Grocery Center and the railroad depot.
Mike was involved in a very significant motorcycle accident before his 18th birthday and was on disability for the rest of his life. His father, mother and grandmother helped to care for him in the initial years after the accident. Mike had wonderful aides and a housekeeper who helped him five days a week to live a wonderful life.
In his younger years, Mike loved raising goats and pigeons on the farm. He mostly kept to himself in recent years, but he will be missed by all who loved him.
Living family members include his brother, James (Sue) Ward of Charles City; sister, Deb (Don) Nosbisch of Charles City; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; aunt and uncle, Myrna and Skip Ward; aunt, Joyce Bray; along with other family members and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Jack and Bill Ward.
