James Dean Burgess “Jimbo”, 61, of Mason City, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

August 19, 1961 – April 8, 2023

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Deacon Regan Banks officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday.

Jimbo was born on August 19, 1961, in Iowa City, the son of Roscoe and Margaret (Fisher) Burgess Jr. He was the sixth child out of seven children, where they were raised in Mason City, IA and surrounding towns. Jimbo was a graduate of Mason City’s High School Class of 1981. He was known as a “Jack of all Trades”, helping others whenever possible. Jimbo spent over 25 years with the love of his life Lisa Read.

In Jimbo’s free time he enjoyed outdoor activities, which included, hunting morel mushrooms, fishing, and riding his bike all over town. Jimbo was also a caregiver and dear friend to Karen and her husband Gerald Lair. Rocky and Sadie, his two feline friends were special to him.

Although Jimbo didn’t have any children of his own he loved his nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews, like his own. Those left to cherish memories of Jimbo are his siblings, Roxanne Burgess of Debary, FL, Cindy Cunningham of Mason City, Julie (Jimmie Lee) Burgess of Mason City; significant other, Lisa Read; nieces and nephews, Laura (Leary), Butch, Michelle (Allen), Keith (Rachel), Johnny (Delta), Dalaina, Lateya (Cedric), Levi (Tiffany), and Trish (Janorris); great nieces and nephews, Cheyenne, Dakota, Jessmyn, Allen Jr. , Josephina, Jaedyn, Jillyaun, JuNessa, Damon, Brooklyn, Aaden, Maina, Mahla, Chloe, Mya, Khamari, Janiyah, Meme, and Junior; great great nieces, Ayvrie, Zia, Mycah, and Li’Anah as well great friends.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sisters, Carol Ann, and Jackie; and a brother Steve; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
