STORY COUNTY – An Iowa driver eluding police at high speed crashed into and a killed a motorist.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on the evening of April 5, 2023. At 9:38 PM in Story county on Highway 210 eastbound lane near 630th Avenue, a 2018 Mazda 6 driven by 30-year-old Micah William Denman of Ankeny was eastbound at excessive speeds possibly up to 130 mph on Highway 210 and attempting to elude law enforcement with emergency lights activated. The Mazda approached a 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by 51-year-old Duane E Sievert of Maxwell, Iowa, traveling at normal speed, authorities say. The Mazda failed to slow and rear-ended the Monte Carlo.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and overturned. Sievert was killed at the scene.
Denman ended up in the Story county jail on the following charges:
HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE – RECKLESS DRIVING (FELONY)
ELUDING (FELONY)
ELUDING – SPEED OVR 25 OVER LIMIT
INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS
FAIL TO OBEY STOP OR YIELD SIGN
UNSAFE PASSING
DRIVING ON WRONG SIDE OF TWO WAY HIGHWAY –
SPEEDING OVER 55 ZONE (OVER 20 MPH OVER)
The crash remains under investigation.
