Donald M. Lee, 83, of Whittemore, died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Algona Manor Care Center.

July 5, 1939 – April 4, 2023

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 10, 2023, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. The service will be livestreamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services’ Facebook page. Visitation will be Monday, April 10, 2023, at Oakcrest Funeral Services from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

Donald Martin Lee was born July 5, 1939, in Thor; the son of Oscar and Agnes (Henrickson) Lee. He grew up in Thor and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1956. Don then attended two years of junior college in Eagle Grove. Following high school, Don worked in construction for a short time.

On April 23, 1966, he was united in marriage to Kay Cook in Humboldt. The couple moved to Whittemore in 1972.

Don grew up in trucking and continued his adult life in the trucking industry for over 20 years, logging many hours. He loved trucking so much that he felt he “never worked a day in his life.” He earned an award for driving 2 million miles and finished his career driving nearly 3 million miles all over the country. Don also took pride in his mechanical skills working for Massey Ferguson. Many farmers knew him from working on their combines. Don was a happy guy and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid race fan attending weekly racing in Algona and numerous other tracks in the area. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Don died Tuesday, April 5, 2023, at the Algona Manor Care Center. He was 83.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter-in-law, Deb Lee of Whittemore; grandchildren, Amanda (Cody) Knecht of Whittemore, Brandon Lee of Algona, Jordan (Emily) Lee of Whittemore; great-grandchildren, Landon, Witten, and Kasen. He is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis (George) Jensen and Judy Knutson both of Humboldt, many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Gage.

He was preceding in death by his parents; wife, Kay; and son, Dana.
