MASON CITY – After a theft at the local Menards store, police in Mason City sought clues from the public and soon zeroed in on a suspect they’ve encountered before.
Dustin Baltierra, age 36, of Mason City, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a charge of third-degree theft. The charge stems from an alleged theft from Menards on March 9, 2023. This charge was enhanced due to prior theft convictions, police say.
Baltierra was released from custody with an initial court appearance date of April 5, 2023 at 3 pm.
Police said “Thank you to all the people who responded promptly with tips today that helped us resolve this open case so quickly.”
Baltierra has a history of arrests in Mason City. Just last year, he was guilty of a number of theft crimes and sent to a residential facility, placed on probation for two years, and given suspected prison sentences. With this arrest, his probation is in jeopardy and a prison cell may be his eventual destination, if found guilty.
