FORT MADISON – NIACC sophomore Alyssa Alert tied for third in the individual medalist competition Tuesday at the Iowa Wesleyan Spring Tiger Classic.
Alert and Waldorf’s Jordan Aholt both shot 84s on the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course to earn their third-place medals.
“Alyssa Alert was battling her driver last weekend in Maryville,” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, “but (Tuesday) she hit the ball well from tee to green. It was great to see her bounce back.”
Also for the Trojans, who placed third with a 365, Sophie Lunning shot 89, Kirsten Boerjan shot 91, Karissa Hoon shot 101 and Emma Weiner shot 102.
“We had a solid day overall (Tuesday),” Frenz said, “and we still know we can get better.
“Sophie turned in a great 89 (Tuesday). She had an outstanding birdie on No. 5 – a solid par 3 (161 yards).”
NIACC returns to action April 7-8 at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational in Fort Dodge.
“Hopefully, we can get outside on a course soon,” Frenz said, “so we can keep building momentum.”
Team standings – Waldorf 337, Iowa Wesleyan 349, NIACC 365, Simpson 380, Carl Sandburg CC 390, Monmouth College 450.
