FORT MADISON – The NIACC men’s golf team tied for fourth Tuesday and Kai Nelles tied for third at the Iowa Wesleyan University Spring Tiger Classic.

The Trojans, who were led by Nelles’ round of 74, tied with host Iowa Wesleyan with a 310 at the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course. Waldorf University was the team champion with a 298.

“We put a nice team score together (Tuesday),” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, “but we know it can still improve. I’m happy overall with that.

“It’s great to have Kai Nelles tie for third place. That’ll be a big confidence boost for him.”

NIACC’s Bryce Malchow shot 75, Elic Fjetland shot 80, Tim Castle shot 81 and Anders Palmquist shot 83.

“Bryce Malchow put together a quality round after a tough couple days last weekend,” Frenz said. “I love the competitive drive of this team.

Also for the Trojans, Jackson Koebernick shot 77, Mitchell Staudt shot 83 and Bennett Suntken shot 86.

“Elic Fjetland got his chance in the top five and delivered a solid round. Jackson Koebernick struggled last weekend but bounced back (Tuesday) with a 77.”

NIACC returns to action April 7-8 at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational in Fort Dodge.

“We’ll look forward to a good week of practice and head to Fort Dodge in a week and a half,” Frenz said.
