Art was known for his loving, compassionate soul and the ability to do anything he put his mind to. Our family is heartbroken over his loss but so grateful for his love, guidance and support. He was a loving husband, the best supportive dad anyone could ask for and a “Super Hero” Papa to all 63 of his grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church 1001 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, Iowa 50428 with Rev. Father Josh Link celebrant. Internment will take place following the Mass at Memorial Park Cemetery Mason City, Iowa. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Ward Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel 310 1st Ave. N, Clear Lake, and an hour before the service on Monday March 27, 2023 at the church. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., followed by a scriptural wake prayer service.

The story of our Dad began on July 29, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Herman Mahon and Edwina (Robart). Dad grew up as an only child but knew he would remedy that when he had his own family. Although he was an only child Bob Breviglieri “Brevi” was his brother by choice.

In 1948 Dad moved to Michigan to attend GMI (General Motors Institute) and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at GMI Dad met Kathleen “Kay” Chimner at the Rickman’s Drugstore, where she worked at the soda fountain. Dad enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 14, 1950. Dad and Kay got married on August 4, 1951 in Flint, Michigan. Dad was commissioned from officer candidate school on September 11, 1953. He then graduated from Pilot training at Webb Air Force Base, Texas 1955. Dad enjoyed flying any type of aircraft. He was a Master Pilot, Full Colonel and Joint Chief of Staff of Strategic Air Command. After 27 ½ years serving the military Dad retired from the Air Forcer on March 31, 1977. After retirement he grabbed the family and moved to Clear Lake, Iowa where he started working for Sperry Unisys.

Although Dad’s military career was very important to him, his biggest pride and joy was his family! Meeting Kay resulted in a union that lasted 71 ½ years. The family legacy he left behind consists of 7 children, 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild! Dad enjoyed traveling to see his family, loved computers, studying genealogy, bowling and his church. He had a servants heart and would do anything he could to help anyone. The one thing his grandchildren would say was he’s a “SUPER HERO”! There was nothing he couldn’t do in their eyes. One of his strongest attributes was that of a Prayer Warrior. Whenever the family needed prayers Dad was on it. It was like he had a one way connection from his mouth to God’s ears. His faith was so strong and wanted all to see that. A large part of Dad’s life was being a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a lector for several years, helped parishioners with their taxes, computers or anything they needed.

Art is proceeded in death by his parents Herman and Edwina Mahon; father-in-law and mother-in-law Al and Sybil Chimner; brother-in-law Richard Chimner; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carman and Jack Goldsworthy; grandsons Christopher Mahon and Shawn Mahon. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (Chimner) Mahon; children Rick Mahon (Noreen); Mike Mahon; Steve Mahon (Debbie); Dawn Mosher (Ron); Jerry Mahon (Diane); Scott Mahon (Tina); Matt Mahon (Tracy); grandchildren Mark Mahon (Audra); Jeremy Mahon (Stacy); Mikala Heimdal (Micah); Joey Mahon; Joshua Mahon (Anh); Michelle Abdul-Kader (Nabil); Valerie Jenkins (Drew); Michael Mahon (Deanna); Heath Anderson; Kassi Riley (Jerrad); Sylvia Treace; Isaac Perez; Levi Mahon (Jessica); Cody Mahon (Samantha); Tyler Mahon (Michelle); Syrinna Mahon; Sydni Mahon; Sofia Mahon ; Mia Mahon; Savanah McClements (Matt); Tiara Musel (Gordon); Marissa Draper; as well as many nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.

His laughter, wisdom and joy will be greatly missed and will sustain us for the rest of our lives. To know him was to love him. Keep praying for us Dad! You will always be our “SUPER HERO”! We will love you always!
