Lester Gene Hobert, the son of Wendell and Phyllis “Fern” (Newton) Hobert, was born February 12, 1948 in Burlington, Iowa. At a young age his family moved to Charles City where he attended country school and graduated from Charles City High School in 1966. Les had enlisted in the United States Navy before his graduation and joined shortly after. He proudly served his country for almost four years being a member of the Seabees and deployed to Vietnam for 14 months.

After his honorable discharge, Les was united in marriage on April 4, 1970 to Linda Jacobs at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in Des Moines where Les drove semi for Brown Transport for several years. They moved to Charles City in 1976, and Les continued with Brown Transport and also worked for Goodyear tending to their service calls.

Les would soon begin his career with different Farming Cooperatives in the area. He worked at Howard County Equity for 16 years, Northern Co-op Services as General Manager for six years and Five Star Co-op in New Hampton as Manager. Les never really did retire because he kept working when he began driving for Allied and other companies until recent health issues forced him to stop.

Les loved his family so much. Whether it was camping, listening to music (even sharing favorite songs on answering machines), playing pool every Saturday for many years, taking road trips, sharing pictures of fast cars or making sure everyone was called by their very special name, Les loved every minute spent with his family. He had such a great sense of humor and could make anyone smile. Les will be missed by all those who loved him.

Living family members include his wife, Linda of Charles City; three children: Wendy Botkin of Charles City, Jeff (Misty) Hobert of Nashua and Travis (Heather) Hobert of Charles City; son-in-law, Lindsey Botkin; five grandchildren: Josh Hobert (fiancée Karagan Fisher), Tristen Botkin, Tyler Hobert, Morgan Hobert and Kendall Hobert; five siblings: Linda (Bob) Milton of Charles City, Robert (Judy) Hobert of Penn Valley, California, Mary (Jerry) Cross of Forest City, Ed (Teresa) Hobert Charles City and Aaron (Diane) Hobert of Charles City; his canine companion, Bingo; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Les was preceded in death by his parents.
