TULSA, Okla. – Iowa’s Spencer Lee is out of the NCAA Tournament due to an injury after he was pinned Friday in the semifinals.

“It has been a long road of a recovery for Spencer Lee,” according to a statement from the University of Iowa. “He will medically forfeit out of the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships today in Tulsa.”

Spencer Lee was riding a 52-match winning streak heading into these championships. Then, Friday, a wrestler he dominated in January – Purdue’s Matt Ramos – somehow pinned one of Iowa’s greatest wrestlers. Lee easily pinned Ramos back in January when Iowa dominated the Boilermakers – but it wasn’t to be Friday.

Lee’s future remains uncertain, but all Hawkeye fans are hoping for a speedy recovery.
