Richard D. Nonnweiler, 72 of Garner and formerly a resident of Opportunity Village in Clear Lake passed away peacefully Friday, March 3, 2023. What a glorious reunion it must have been in Heaven.
He will be laid to rest 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Clear Lake Cemetery beside his mother, Deloris.
Richard Dale Nonnweiler was born December 19, 1950 to Robert “Buck” and Deloris L. (Field) Nonnweiler. His mother, Deloris cared for him, alongside his step-father, Losen Newman. With this union he gained four step-siblings: Tom, Marj, Donna and Ed.
Soon Richard made his home at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake where the fellow residents and staff became more like family.
Doctors predicted that he wouldn’t live past the age of 5, but Richard had other plans. He lived a full, meaningful life often sweetened with caramels and chocolate. He found joy in the simple things, like watching TV and spending time with his family. Although Richard’s life may have been different from others, it was no less valuable, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Those surviving are his siblings, Ed (Tracy) Newman of Humboldt; Marj Grell of Loveland, Colo.; and Donna Smith of Waukee; sister-in-law, Kathy Newman; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews’ as well as countless friends made along the way.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Deloris Newman; step-father, Losen Newman; father, Buck Nonnweiler, brother, Tom Newman, and grandparents.
