Vernon was born December 28, 1937, in Franklin County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer and remained a member there until his passing.

Vernon lived his life in the Latimer Community, having grown up on a farm north of Latimer, and moved into Latimer in 1993. He received his education at Franklin Consolidated School.

Over the years, Vernon worked on the family farm and was also a farm hand for local farmers. He was also employed by the railroad, Farmland Foods, Sheffield Brick and Tile, and in his post retirement years he worked at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake.

Vernon enjoyed socializing and gathering with family and friends for any event worth celebrating, oftentimes sharing in the fun of riding his snowmobile or motorcycle with family. He enjoyed friendships gained at church, CAL over 60’s Leahy Grove, and the Rehabilation Center of Hampton.

The best of friends were those who would take the time to talk Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls or the Iowa Hawkeyes with him.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Alvina (Pralle) Honold, sister Lorna Brown, sister Karen Lehman, sister-in-law Janice Honold, and nephew Mark Brown.

Surviving Vernon are his brothers Marvin (Ruth) Honold of Grinnell, Frank Honold of Hampton, brothers-in-law Lowell Brown and Paul Lehman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernon reached his heavenly home never being shy to witness his prayer life and faith in Christ as his Savior.
