MASON CITY - The Mason City council will consider hiring three new police officers tonight to help battle crime and keep law and order in the community.

Mason City chief of police Jeff Brinkley is recommending to the city council the approval of a plan to hire Jacob Beaulieu, Justin Lardy, and Boston Draper as a police officers at a starting wage of $29.28/hour.

The Mason City Police Department currently has Police officer vacancies, Chief Brinkley told the council in a memo. Jacob Beaulieu, Justin Lardy, and Boston Draper have completed all testing and have accepted conditional offers of employment. Beaulieu is already an Iowa certified peace officer. Both Lardy and Draper will need to complete academy training. Lardy will start with MCPD on March 9 and Beaulieu and Draper will start on March 22.

Salary and benefits for this position is provided for in the Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement and is included in the annual operations budget. The current starting wage for Police Officer is $29.28/hour.

Chief Brinkley is asking the council at tonight’s meeting to approve the hires.
