MINNEAPOLIS – The path to a BIG 10 Tournament Title repeat for Iowa will not be easy, as the Hawkeyes will face a tough Maryland team in the semifinals today at 4 PM.
The #2 seeded Iowa Hawkeyes (24-6) will face #3 seeded Maryland (25-5) at approximately 4 p.m. at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Iowa beat Purdue, 69-58, to reach the semis. Maryland handled #6 seeded Illinois, 73-58.
Iowa topped No. 8 Maryland in front of a national audience on ESPN, 96-82, February 2 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. However, Maryland throttled the Hawkeyes, 96-78, on their home court on February 22.
The winner faces either #1 seeded Indiana or Ohio State in the title game tomorrow.
Iowa is the defending champion. Last year, Iowa defeated Indiana, 74-67, inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, winning the Big Ten Tournament Championship and marking the first time the Hawkeyes have won both the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles in the same season.
