MASON CITY – The NIACC softball team is ranked No. 17 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll released Monday.
It is the first time NIACC has been ranked since the 2019 season. The Trojans were ranked No. 17 in the April 30, 2019 poll and were ranked as high as sixth that season on April 16, 2019.
NIACC, under second-year coach Matt Egger, is off to a 10-0 start to the 2023 season, including six wins last weekend at the Southeastern Turf Tournament. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 134-12 so far this season.
NIACC’s Ravyn Krachey is hitting .682 (15-22) with seven doubles and 19 RBIs. Emily Jones is hitting .667 (16-24) with nine doubles, two home runs and 16 RBIs and Brianna McPoland is hitting .552 (16-29) with 19 RBIs.
The Trojans’ Brynn Stalberger is 4-0 with 29 strikeouts and a 1.40 earned run average. Laken Lienhard is 3-0 with 28 strikeouts and a 0.74 ERA and Jones is 3-0 with 10 strikeouts 0.47 ERA.
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday in a four-game series at Labette CC in Parsons, Kan.
DMACC (4-0) is ranked second and Kirkwood (6-4) is ranked 13th.
