Iowa man arrested after business evacuated due to bomb threat

CEDAR RAPIDS - An Iowa business was evacuated after a bomb threat this weekend, landing a suspect behind bars.

CEDAR RAPIDS – An Iowa business was evacuated after a bomb threat this weekend, landing a suspect behind bars.

Police say that at approximately 6:16 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2023, the Cedar Rapids police department was made aware of a verbal bomb threat in the automotive service section of a business in the 3600 Block of 29th Ave SW. The extra-duty officer on-site notified the Cedar Rapids Metro Hazardous Devices Unit of the threat and began the process of evacuating that business and others in the immediate vicinity. HDU team members arrived and deployed an explosive detection robot and two technicians to the auto service area and searched a suspect car – finding no evidence of explosives.

The area was declared safe by police at 7:45 PM and no injuries were reported.

The individual who allegedly made the verbal threat was taken into custody and is currently in the Linn County Jail.

Roy Boughner, age 56, of Riverside, IA is charged with Harassment and Disorderly Conduct

There is an active, ongoing police investigation into this matter.
