Women’s College Basketball: No. 18 Iowa State clubs TCU, 75-35

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 18 Iowa State (14-4, 6-2 Big 12) picked up the road win Wednesday night in dominant fashion over TCU (6-13, 0-8 Big 12) by a 40-point margin of 75-35. ISU had a balanced attack with four double-figure scorers while holding TCU to 23 percent from the field.

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 18 Iowa State (14-4, 6-2 Big 12) picked up the road win Wednesday night in dominant fashion over TCU (6-13, 0-8 Big 12) by a 40-point margin of 75-35. ISU had a balanced attack with four double-figure scorers while holding TCU to 23 percent from the field.

The Cyclones grabbed their fifth-straight win in the all-time series, while the 40-point victory ties the third-largest winning margin in a conference game in ISU history and is the widest margin since the 40-point win over Texas in 2001.

Iowa State also had its fifth conference game with 10-plus 3-pointers, totaling its highest conference total this season of 13 by five players.

Ashley Joens paced the Cyclones with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Denae Fritz and Morgan Kane chipped in 13 apiece. Fritz tied her career high of three 3-pointers on just four attempts. Lexi Donarski also totaled three from deep as she brought in 10 points on the night.

Joens began a hot streak 30 seconds in with a 3-pointer and continued to pour on the offense, totaling seven of the Cyclones’ 10 points before TCU got on the board. Joens hit her second triple with 4:22 on the clock as ISU stretched its lead out to 15-2. Denae Fritz then broke up a 6-0 TCU run with a layup and Donarski totaled another Cyclone trey for a double-digit lead of 20-10 after the first.

Iowa State’s lead remained in double digits as Donarski put up her second shot from long range midway through the second frame. Iowa State held TCU to seven points in the quarter while totaling five first-half 3-pointers. After two played, the score stood at 33-17.

Iowa State began a dominant third quarter as Emily Ryan became the third Cyclone to drain a triple, extending the ISU advantage to 40-17 with 6:35 to go. Donarski then joined Joens in double figures with her third 3-pointer, leading to another trey by Ryan to go up 46-18. Kane kept the scoring run alive as she muscled in the layup while becoming the third with 10-plus points. After outscoring the Horned Frogs 29-5 in the frame, ISU entered the fourth up 65-22.

Iowa State continued to push pash TCU while eight players contributed to the point total through the game to put the final score at 75-35.

Ashley Joens notched her third-straight double-double for nine on the season and 58 on her career. The senior ended the night with four triples and a final stat line of 19 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
