Lora Jane Hanson, 91, of Hampton, formerly of Dumont, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2023, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont. A memorial visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hampton is caring for Lora Jane and her family.

Lora Jane was born on November 6, 1931, at home in Dumont, to Lloyd and Charlotte (Turner) Faber. She graduated from Dumont High School with the class of 1949. Lora Jane continued her education at Westmar College in Le Mars and Broadlawns Nursing School in Des Moines to become a Registered Nurse. For years, she worked at the Hampton Clinic with Drs. Benge, Randall, and Munns before transitioning to Dr. Dorothy Heuermann’s nurse at the Franklin Medical Center.

Lora Jane met Jim Hanson of Dumont and they were united in marriage on August 28, 1954, at Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church in Dumont (now known as New Hope United Methodist Church).

Lora Jane was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, where she was active with the UMW. She was also a member of the Child Study Club, a mothers’ club, in Dumont.

While their kids were in school, she and Jim never missed a ball game, track meet, concert, play, or any event their children were participating in. Lora Jane even brought her knitting to the basketball games and could always be spotted easily from the gym floor. Later on, they enjoyed the same privileges with their grandchildren.

Lora Jane enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, and tending to her flowers, iris being her favorite. She was a historian and loved to take pictures, collect photos and keep newspaper clippings of neighbors, friends and family. After retiring from the Franklin Medical Center, she enjoyed traveling with Jim as they delivered Winnebago motorhomes around the United States.

Lora Jane will be missed by her husband of 68 years, Jim Hanson of Hampton; daughter, Linda (Mike) Buchanan of Hampton; daughter-in-law, Kim Hanson of Dumont; brother, Paul (Karin) Faber of Ankeny; sister, Ardith Hill of Hampton; grandchildren, Zac (Amanda) Hanson of Iowa Falls, Levi (Amy) Hanson of Waterloo, Lucas Hanson of Seattle, Washington, Jessica Buchanan of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Rebecca Buchanan of Waverly; great-grandchildren, Brinlee, Makinlee and Oaklee Hanson, Emmaus and Briar Hanson; along with several nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Charlotte Faber; son, Mike Hanson; brother, Richard Faber; infant sister, Ruth Ann Faber.
