NEW ORLEANS – No. 6 Iowa State (6-1, 1-0 Big 12) took eight of ten matches, including two bonus point wins, in a strong showing against Oregon State (2-3, 0-0 PAC-12) Monday morning. The Cyclones prevailed, 26-6, against the Beavers to improve to 1-0 in the Blue Pool.

How it Happened
In his first dual action as a Cyclone, freshman Ethan Perryman batted tough against No. 10 Brandon Kaylor in the opening match of the event but fell, 5-2. The pair were knotted 1-1 midway through the third period before a four-point, feet-to-back move from Kaylor broke the tie.

No. 21 Ramazan Attasauov got Iowa State on the board at 133 pounds with a 6-3 victory over No. 16 Jason Shaner which included over two minutes of riding time. Attasauov looked strong on his feet with a pair of takedowns in the match before closing it out with a strong ride for the entire third period.

At 141 pounds, Zach Redding prevailed over No. 23 Cleveland Belton, 6-5, thanks to a strong third-period ride to amass nearly two minutes of riding time.

No. 5 Paniro Johnson handled business against Riley Gurr at 149 pounds with a 14-5 major decision. Johnson racked up six takedowns in the win, including three in the third period.

Jason Kraisser had to overcome an early 6-0 deficit in the first period at 157 pounds, but rallied to defeat Isaiah Crosby, 10-8 in SV-1.

At 165 pounds, No. 3 David Carr defeated No. 23 Matthew Olguin with a 6-1 victory to improve to 8-0 on the year.

No. 21 Julien Broderson prevailed in a tight match against No. 28 Mateo Olmos, 5-2, at 174 pounds. Broderson found himself ahead, 3-2, late in the third when he countered a final Olmos attack for a late takedown to seal the win.

No. 4 Marcus Coleman couldn’t dig out of an early 6-0 hole against No. 13 Trey Munoz at 184 pounds. Coleman suffered his first loss of the season, 8-4, to Munoz.

At 197 pounds, No. 2 Yonger Bastida showed his strength in a narrow 3-2 victory over No. 10 Tanner Harvey. Bastida scored the match’s only takedown on the edge of the mat in the second period. It was challenged by the Oregon State corner but was upheld upon review.
