Genevieve Fox, the daughter of Harry B. and Nellie M. (Carney) Fox, was born February 21, 1924, on the family farm in Oakwood, Iowa. Genny was raised in Floyd County and graduated from Charles City High School in 1941. She received a certificate in Normal Training and taught at the Rockford rural school and then at St. Charles #8. On August 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to Duane C. Boyd at Waynesville, Missouri. Following his discharge from the Army, they farmed in the Charles City area all their lives.

Genevieve was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and pianist, active on church committees, and in United Methodist Women (serving as president at the local and district levels). She was a member of the “Middies” church group well beyond middle age and known for the Lemon Meringue Pies at the group auctions.

Genny was a founding member of the Floyd County Porkettes. She and Duane traveled with the Iowa Pork Producers around the United States promoting pork as the other white meat. Genny was a member of the Charles City Women’s Club, Happy Hour Homemakers Club, Neighborhood Breakfast Club, American Legion Women’s Group, and a board member of the Riverside Cemetery Association.

Besides her love of service to others, Genny and Duane loved pigs, including their collection of over 1,000 treasured pigs, many from special friends and family. Family was important to Genny. She was involved in the activities of her children and grandchildren including 4-H leader. She loved the visits from her family and the visits to see those who live away. She enjoyed traveling, her flower gardens (especially roses), quilting, embroidery, crocheting, and making sure the cookie jar was always full.

Living family members include daughter, Karen (Steve) Rankin of Sheboygan, Wisconsin and their children: Eric (Cheri) Rankin (with their children: Molly Rankin and Gavin Rankin), Adam (Alissa) Rankin (with their children: Arreana Rankin and Ryver Rankin), and Heidi Duke (with her children: William Duke and Nicholas Duke); son, Leland (Kristeen) Boyd of Charles City and their children: Dr. Angela (Greg) Townsend (with their children: Caleb (Carlye) Townsend, Elijah Townsend, Abigail Townsend, and Gabrielle Townsend) and Melissa (Wendy Haroldson) Boyd (with their child, Tyler Haroldson); sister-in-law, Dixie Hart Fox; Special Cousin, Rhoda Huxol McCartney; and many nieces and nephews.
