Shooting in parking lot at Iowa bar leads to attempted murder charge for man

ANKENY – A shooting in a parking lot at an Iowa bar lead police to detain and charge a man with attempted murder.

On Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at roughly 1:30 AM, the Ankeny Police Department responded to the Yankee Clipper, 312 SW Maple Street, on a report of a person shooting a gun in the parking lot. As officers arrived, the subject attempted to leave and a traffic stop was conducted. The subject was detained and brought to the Ankeny Police Department where he was questioned by detectives.

It was determined the suspect had been in an altercation with anther patron of the bar which led to a shot being fired. After speaking with the victim, witnesses and the suspect, Robert “Bobby” Barker (53) was charged with Attempted Murder and taken to the Polk Co. Jail.

Arrested and charged was 53-year-old Robert “Bobby” L. Barker of Ankeny, Iowa. he was charged with attempted murder – IA Code 707.11 – a class B Felony. He remains in the Polk county jail at this time.
