Two Minnesota residents arrested after Northern Iowa traffic stop

EMMET COUNTY - Two people were arrested recently as the result of a traffic stop in Emmet County.

EMMET COUNTY – Two people were arrested recently as the result of a traffic stop in Emmet County.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a sheriff’s deputy on patrol initiated a traffic stop east of Armstrong to investigate a traffic violation at 10:10pm on September 28th 2022.

Upon investigation at the scene, it was determined that the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and was wanted out of Clay County, Iowa on an outstanding arrest warrant. The driver, David Schmidt age (42) of Jackson, Minnesota was placed under arrest.

Additionally, a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia were discovered in the vehicle. As a result, a passenger in the vehicle, Veronica Clagg age (34) of Welcome, Minnesota was taken into custody.

Both Schmidt and Clagg were transported to the Emmet County Jail where they were booked.

Schmidt was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Under Suspension and the Clay County arrest warrant.

Clagg was booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
