UNI men’s basketball picks up 84-52 exhibition win over Dubuque

CEDAR FALLS - Ten Panthers recorded points in the scorebook on Wednesday night as UNI picked up an 84-52 exhibition victory over the Dubuque Spartans at the McLeod Center.

CEDAR FALLS – Ten Panthers recorded points in the scorebook on Wednesday night as UNI picked up an 84-52 exhibition victory over the Dubuque Spartans at the McLeod Center.

UNI fell behind early but quickly surged past the Spartans by outscoring Dubuque 7-0 on second chance points and from three-point range. Tytan Anderson made 4-of-5 shot attempts from the field in the first half along with three free throws for 12 points in the opening stanza as the Panthers took a 41-27 lead into the halftime break.

The Panthers’ hot shooting continued into the second half with UNI shooting 47% from the floor and holding the Dubuque offense to just 8 made field goals in the period. Anderson racked up a pair of blocks in his 7 minutes played in the second period, while Drew Daniel sank three baskets from beyond the arc, tying for a team-high 4 rebounds in the half as UNI pulled away, outscoring the Spartans 11-3 off turnovers.

Anderson finished with a game-high 15 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 total blocks in the Panther win, while James Betz notched 13 points thanks to a strong interior performance. Cole Henry recorded an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double for UNI as Daniel, Trey Campbell, and Landon Wolf each tallied 9 points. Campbell, along with Michael Duax both led UNI with 3 assists each.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will open the season on Nov. 7 at home against Wartburg. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the McLeod Center.
