OBIT: Lorraine Drager

Lorraine Drager, age 95 of Algona, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial will take place at East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona with a Rosary at 5:00 PM.

Lorraine Rahe Drager was born on June 26, 1927 in Bancroft, Iowa. Daughter of Al and Rose (Deitering) Rahe. She grew up in Bancroft attending St. John’s school, graduating in 1945. After helping at home for two years, she began work for Northwestern Bell in Algona as a telephone operator. After six years, she transferred to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a receptionist and mail clerk in Area Commercial. From there, she moved to different departments in downtown Minneapolis as payroll clerk, bookkeeper, order writer, and promoted to Supervisor in 1970. She retired as Marketing Staff Supervisor in 1983 with 35 years of service. In Minneapolis she ushered for two theatres for 10 years and enjoyed seeing the Broadway Shows and Stage Plays. She traveled on tours by bus, plane, and train to Canada, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and a cruise to Alaska. She and Eugene drove many routes across the 48 states on winter vacations and Rural Electric Conventions.

On October 2, 1967 Lorraine was united in marriage to Eugene Drager in Minneapolis. They purchased a home in Burnsville, MN and she commuted on weekends while she continued her job, and Eugene continued farming in Algona. In 1985 they built their home on Oak Lake- Algona where they lived after retirement. Eugene passed away on December 9, 2007. Lorraine moved into her apartment in Algona on June 1, 2010.

Lorraine helped at the Algona Manor when her mother lived there and continued volunteer work for the following 15 years. She had been a member of NWB-USW-Qwest Retiree Assn. and attended annual meetings and gatherings with friends in Minneapolis.

Without children of her own, she loved and enjoyed her nieces and nephews and their families. She kept in touch as much as possible and knew they were there with interest and support.

She is survived by sisters and brother, Gini Buscher of Algona; Becky Gabriel of Bondurant; Ed and Margie Rahe of Algona; sister-in-law, Arliss Rahe of Bancroft; special 25 nieces and nephews and their families. Also surviving as special family to her is Clark and Allison Christensen, Aaron, Caleb, and Nicholas; and Bud and Ruth Robenson family.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, husband Eugene (December 9, 2007), sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Howard Weydert, brother, Don Rahe; sister-in-law, Irene Drager; brothers-in-law, Dick Buscher and Guy Gabriel; niece, Linda Weydert Booth and nephew, Terry Buscher.
