Ardis Maureen Day, age 91 of Humboldt, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital with St. Croix Hospice helping in her final days. She had battled cancer for 2 ½ years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating. Services will be livestreamed. Burial will take place at Indian Mound Cemetery in Humboldt. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Ardis was born January 31, 1931 to Milford and Alice (Gordon) Westre in Thor. She was baptized and confirmed at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1948.
On February 20, 1949 she married Carl Day and they started farming. They were blessed with three sons, raising them to also love the land.
In 1995, Ardis lost the love of her life, her husband Carl in a tragic accident. She continued to live on the family farm until 2003, when she moved into Humboldt, living there until her death.
For many years she worked at Oaks Garden Spot, doing what she loved by working with flowers and plants and meeting many great people. She worked until she as 79.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to Sunday service and events at the church. She was a charter member of the Honey Bee Quilters, Knitters and Crocheters, VFW Auxiliary and Humboldt Genealogy. Her hobbies included baking, canning and gardening but her passion was quilting and she made many quilts for family and hundreds that she donated to the church and children in hospitals.
Her family was the greatest aspect of her life and she enjoyed the times they got together. Survivors are her sons Dennis (Paula) of Humboldt, Douglas (Maggie) from Flandreau, SD and Kenneth (Julie) of Rutland; Grandchildren Carolyn (Matt) Powers, Andrea (John) Harms, Melissa (Nate) Ubben, Michelle (Mike) Coleman, Michael Day and Adam (Jill) Day. Her twelve great grandchildren were the sparkle of her eye: Jayden and Kirra; Grady, Grace and Emmi; Morgan Day (who was born 1 ½ hours before Ardis’ passing); Kahne, Nevin and Maddie; Spencer, Addie and Katelyn. Dorothy Dale was a very special lifelong friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson Christopher.
