ANKENY – An Iowa man wanted for lascivious acts with a child was chased down by cops after stealing a moped.
On Wednesday, June 29, 2022 just before 9 a.m., Ankeny Police officers were informed a moped had been stolen from 1728 NW Pine Rd. in the past 20 minutes.
Ankeny police Sgt. Grandgeorge was in the area conducting bike patrol when the call was dispatched. As he approached the area of the reported theft, he observed a white male, later identified as 45-year-old Thomas Montgomery of Clive, Iowa, pushing a moped east on the bike trail. Sgt. Grandgeorge told Montgomery to stop and he dropped the moped and began running from him. Sgt. Grandgeorge chased him on foot and at the conclusion of the foot pursuit, Montgomery took a fighting stance with him and a taser was used.
Once on the ground, Montgomery continued to resist being handcuffed and the taser was redeployed. Sgt. Grandgeorge was then able to handcuff Montgomery and take him into custody. A search of Montgomery and his backpack revealed illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
The Ankeny Fire Department responded to the scene and checked Montgomery’s well-being and removed the taser probes. Once he was medically cleared he was told he was under arrest and transported to the Polk Co. Jail.
