FORT DODGE – Police in Fort Dodge are scrambling to investigate the latest incident in which bullets were fired, this time involving occupants in two cars.
On Monday, June 6 at approximately 10:47 P.M., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received numerous calls of shots fired. Reports indicated the shots were originating near the intersection of South 18th Street and 3rd Avenue South. Callers reported hearing multiple shots being fired.
Officers arrived in the area and began speaking with witnesses. Information provided at the time indicated two vehicles were parked next to one another in the roadway while stopped
in the 300 block of South 18th Street. As shots began, the vehicles fled the area to the north and south. Officers located numerous spent casings in the 300 block of South 18th Street, as well as the alleyway to the west of where the vehicles were parked.
While on scene of the shots fired, officers were notified of a vehicle that had just been abandoned in the 300 block of North 18th Street. Damage was observed on the vehicle consistent with having been shot at. In addition, a residence in the 1800 block of 3rd Avenue South sustained damage and no injuries were reported to law enforcement.
The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident and encourages anyone who may have seen or heard anything around this time to contact the police department.
Police claim the preliminary investigation indicates that this incident was specific to those involved and was not a random act of violence.
