OBIT: Leighton Demaray

Leighton Charles Demaray, 92, of Rockford, Iowa, passed away at the I.O.O.F Home in Mason City, Iowa on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

A memorial service for Leighton Demaray will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd, Iowa immediately following the service.

A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour before the memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Leighton Charles Demaray was born at home to Jay and Dorothy (Mathers) Demaray on March 10, 1930. He attended Floyd country school graduating in the class of 1948. Leighton worked for many years at Fischer Chevrolet, and then he drove truck for Miller Truck Line out of Rudd, Iowa.

Following high school, Leighton met Catherine Nordman and married her on July 23, 1950. This union was blessed with seven children. You could find Leighton and Catherine at the Moose on Saturday nights dancing the night away. He enjoyed spending time with family and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Connie (Gene) Schuster, Pam Dight, Debbie Hufft, Kim (Jerry) McDowell, and Mike (Julie) Demaray; daughter-in-law, Cheri Demaray; sister-in-law, Margie Demaray; brother, Gene Demaray; he also had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Leighton was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Demaray; sons: Steve Demaray and Jay Demaray; sons-in-law: Tom Dight, Jack Spence, and Bennie Hufft; along with three brothers: Virden, Irwin, and Dean Demaray.
