CEDAR RAPIDS – The NIACC baseball team dropped a 10-6 decision to Southeastern Saturday in an elimination game at the NJCAA Region XI tournament on the Mount Mercy University campus.
NIACC (34-19) scored six runs in the third inning and led 6-0 after five innings.
Southeastern scored four runs in the sixth inning and tied the contest with two runs in the eighth inning. The Blackhawks scored four runs in the ninth inning to claim the four-run victory.
In NIACC’s six-run third inning, Noah Juliar plated two runs with a double, Logan Milene had an RBI double, Gunnar Hansen plated a run with a bases loaded walk and Cayden Nicoletto drove in a run while reaching on an error.
Juliar and Cody Kelly were both 2 for 4 for the Trojans.
NIACC’s starting pitcher Brandt Thompson allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings of work with four strikeouts and two walks.
Southeastern (40-20) faces the loser of the Kirkwood/DMACC contest in Saturday’s final game. Kirkwood and DMACC meet at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
