COUNCIL BLUFFS – NIACC sophomore Tinashe Chigudu earned two second-place finishes at the NJCAA Region XI championships on Sunday.
Chigudu placed second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.37 seconds, which tied his own school record time. Chigudu was also second in the 200 in 21.03.
Chigudu set a school record in the 200 prelims on Saturday in a time of 20.86.
NIACC placed fourth in the team standings with 77 points. Iowa Western was the men’s regional team champion with 280 points and Iowa Central was second with 212 points.
Also for NIACC on Sunday, Melvin Kipkemboi was third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 14:35.29.
NIACC’s Kameron Glasper was fifth in the discus with a personal-best toss of 143 feet, 7 inches and placed sixth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 45-4 1/2. The toss of 143-7 in the discus ranks second on the school’s all-time list and his toss of 45-4 1/2 ranks third on the school’s all-time best list.
NIACC’s Daqwan Sanders was sixth in the high jump (6-0 3/4) and placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 15-79, which ranks third on the school’s all-time list. The Trojans’ Bernard Bell was sixth in the 100 (10.71).
NIACC’s Matt Seberson was sixth in the triple jump (40-10 1/2).
NIACC’s Caleb Sledd placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:15.97). NIACC’s Randry Mugisha was ninth in the shot put (33-9 1/2) and was 10th in the discus (116-6).
Also in the high jump, NIACC’s Michael Moore-Fondren was eighth (5-8 3/4) and Marcel Smith was 10th (5-7).
