MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Melvin Kipkemboi was selected as the ICCAC track and field athlete of the week for the week of April 11-17.
Kipkemboi set the school record in the 5,000-meter run last Friday at the Jim Duncan Invitational by placing second in a time of 14 minutes, 30.52 seconds.
Kipkemboi broke the old mark of 14:36.89 by Jordan Anderson at the 2008 Penn Relays. Kipkemboi’s previous best time in the 5,000 was 14:49.26 at the Wartburg College Outdoor Select meet on April 1, 2022.
Kipkemboi has the 12th best time in the NJCAA in the 5,000 meters and the eighth fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
