Iowa man charged with murder for shooting his brother dead

POMEROY, IOWA – An Iowa man is charged with murder for shooting his brother dead.

On April 9th, 2022 at approximately 4:25 PM, the Calhoun County Dispatch Center took a report of a male who had been shot at 210 S. Ontario St in Pomeroy. First responders, including Calhoun County Deputies, Pomeroy Police Department and Calhoun County EMS responded to the scene. First responders found the victim, later identified as 59-year-old Anthony Hinners, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life saving measures provided, Hinners was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). As a result of the joint investigation between the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the DCI, and in consultation with the Calhoun County Attorney’s Office, 66-year-old Michael Hinners was arrested and charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, a class A Felony.

Hinners was booked into the Carroll County Jail on this charge. The victim has been transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner (IOSME) for autopsy.
