Northern Iowa woman sent to prison after dealing meth to child

SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – A Northern Iowa woman was sent to prison after dealing meth to child, authorities say.

Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle announced that 22-year-old Jennifer Gomez of Sioux Center, Iowa, was sentenced today in court to a two-year indeterminate prison term to be served at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville, Iowa. The sentence was scheduled to begin on April 15, 2022.

Gomez was previously given probation on November 26, 2019, after entering a guilty plea to distributing a controlled substance – methamphetamine – to a person under 18, a class b felony. Gomez failed to comply with probation but was given one more chance to participate in drug court in February of 2021. Gomez failed comply with any conditions of drug court, and was facing a 25-year indeterminate prison term.

In exchange for Gomez guilty plea to new charges, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Second Offence, in Sioux County Case No. SRCR017744, she received a two-year indeterminate prison term and the State agreed to not seek a 25-year term.
