NIACC women’s basketball players earn all-region honors

MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team landed two players on the all-NJCAA Region XI teams released Tuesday.

NIACC’s Alyssa Hames was selected to the second-team and Audrey Martinez-Stewart was selected to the third team.

Hames averaged 11.0 points per game and led the Trojans with 250 rebounds, which ranks 12th on NIACC’s single-season rebounding list. Hames also had 69 assists and 51 steals for the Trojans, who were 22-9 and advanced to the NJCAA Region XI semifinals.

Martinez-Stewart averaged 11.3 points per game and led the Trojans with 116 assists, which ranks 18th on the school’s single-season assist list. Martinez-Stewart also had 158 rebounds and 88 steals, which is tied for 17th on the school’s single-season list.

Kirkwood’s Kim Muhl was selected as the region’s coach of the year and Ashley Tull was the region’s player of the year.
The newcomer of the year was Iowa Western’s Ndidiamaka Ndukwe and the defensive player of the year was Iowa Central’s Nevaeh Galloway.
